STLBX 05

9/30/05

My blurb from last year:

"6 years.  It's the longest I've been in any place in my life ... from 1996 to 2001 I lived in St. Louis and I love coming back home.  It's easy to get around, familiar, and fun to revisit all of the places that I know and love ... it's just a shame that there's not enough time to check out everything.  But of course, I was at an exchange.  Funny thing was, I wasn't doing much dancing ... just hanging out and drinking ... perhaps I've become one of those old-timers in the scene ..."

It was true then.  It's true now.  So, what did I like:

bulletI liked hanging out with my restaurateur friend Mike Johnson.  Before I was working in the business, I knew that he was a success, but I didn't realize just how much of a success he is.  And how did I spend part of my first vacation in nearly a year?  Saturday morning I was working in the kitchen of Mike's newest kitchen, Boogaloo.  Delish.
bulletWatching Liz and Damon do some kickass solo blues dancing.  Yummy.
bulletHanging out at the Scottish Arms with Steven, Annelise, Kelly and Gary.  I have to say that this was one of the high points of the weekend.
bulletThank you Melissa and Charlie for your wonderful hospitality!
bulletOkay, Bryn, so I did dance with you after all.
bulletSharing a drink with Keith.  It was my pleasure.
bulletOnce again, Elaine gets her usual STLBX injury.  Just once you need to go to an exchange and come out intact.
bulletThanks Ruby for the drink and for your company this weekend.
bulletMerci beacup Nathalie pour les danses merveilleuses.
bulletI'm sorry Eslie that we did not get a chance to go out for Korean food.  I promise to make some of my mom's bulgolgi next time we run across each other.
bulletTo my favorite bartenders Todd and Chad you two make every exchange so much more enjoyable.
bulletSeeing Kim Massie live again ... oh, happy day!
bulletFor Cid and Luke, all I have to say is ... I danced with your mom, and man, she really enjoyed it.
bulletLooking fabulous, Erin.  I wish we could have spent more time together.
bulletI tell you Mingus, it's my bed.  I swear.
bulletJust the inspiration that I got from spending so much time in conversation about the music and the scene, especially Steven, Kelly, Tina, Clay, Heidi and Karen.  To be around so many people that are this passionate about taking things to the next level was a real refresher to my soul.  I can't tell you how much I needed the jolt from this weekend.
bulletAnd Beth, everything's different but everything's the same.
