St. Louis Lindy Blues Exchange 2003

9/29/03

In my heart of hearts, St. Louis is home to me, so coming back always gives me warm fuzzies.  This trip, I got to see my friend Mike Johnson's new restaurants, Figaro and BARcelona.  Mike's old restaurant, Cafe Mira, was my thirdspace while I was living in St. Louis.  Although it's gone now, Figaro and BARcelona both evoke that comfortable feeling that only comes with familiar food.  Duck liver mousse, steak frites, calamari, sautéed spinach, torta, crème brulee, potato salad ... I could go on and on. I might fly back up to St. Louis just to eat again ...

But the thing that makes me laugh most about the weekend was something that happened at Thursday afterhours.  Shawn and I were walking outside when a balding, whitebread male with sideburns pulls up in his beatup green Buick (apparently looking for hoes) and asks, "Do you know where the white girls are?"  Priceless.

Some of this highlights, in no particular order:

bulletJen from DC - Mmmmm ... that's all that needs to be said ;)
bulletWU Jen - It was so great to see you again!  Congrats on med school!
